Dave Prosper
Hi there! This is my old school portfolio page, which seems a bit more fun than my LinkedIn profile. If you hire me for your project you're guaranteed that I will work my buns off while giving your project extra polish and unique style. I'm a jack of all trades and have worked in many roles throughout my professional career. One executive I've assisted nailed it:
"Dave is a master of strange projects and special situations."
In the past I have served in many roles: help desk, IT guy, server admin, consultant, operations manager, astronomer, stargazing tour guide, telescope operator, media restoration and retrieval wiz, electronic and game repair guru, farmer, and more. While wildly variable, these past gigs have all helped build a wide and useful breadth and depth of knowledge and experience. I take great pleasure in noting that everything I have done in the past has helped train and prepare me for more interesting projects in the future. With that said, currently I am mostly involved in making maple syrup and working on writing & illustration, with a dash of accessibility work. More on that below!

I have over two decades of experience writing and illustrating articles for both print and web. My most recent project was also one of my longest-running, and my personal favorite: NASA's Night Sky Notes, a monthly series of stargazing articles tied in with the latest in NASA science. I researched, wrote, illustrated, photographed, and collaborated with other educators, astronomers, and scientist to whittle down a ton of fun space facts into a fun, short, and accessible read, all while synching up with NASA's broader education efforts and projects.
I was also privileged to write a regular column in the Astronomical League's publication, The Reflector. "The Latest from NASA's Night Sky Network" caught readers up with the latest happenings from NASA's Night Sky Network program - as you may have guessed from the name! The Night Sky Network is an astronomy-club focused outreach program with members across the United States and its territories - one that I was fortunate enough to professionally assist with running and administration for over a decade.
I also wrote articles and did photography and illustration for additional publications from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific: Mercury, Universe in the Classroom, and the Conference Series.
I wrote a book with my co-workers! You may have even seen it. A few yars ago I helped co-write and illustrate The Total SkyWatcher's Manual for Weldon-Owen Publishing in 2014. It's a fun little book full of DIY projects and teachable tidbits for astronomers of all skill levels and from what I understand, it sold over half a million copies. Dang!
I currently make maple syrup and other delicious goodies at Ursa Maple Sugar Farms in Northern New York State. I've been doing it for a few years! I've picked up a bit of knowledge, so if you are looking into tapping a few trees, or expanding from a hobby into slightly larger, you can hit me up for advice.
You can buy syrup for our online shop at ursamaple.square.site. You can check out a preview of delightful pack-ins at ursamaple.com/downloads
Watch out for the Maple Monster!
